Lewis Out, Edelman Out, What Now?

Dion Lewis is out for the year with a torn ACL, and Julian Edelman is out until the playoffs with a broken foot.  How will they replace these two key players to the offense?

Dion Lewis

Although Brandon Bolden and James White are doing their part, they need a significant passing back.  There are a couple options, although Travaris Cadet was signed by the 49ers.  Last week, the Pats worked out with RBs Pierre Thomas and Robert Turbin.  Thomas, a powerful Saints passing back for several years, parted with the Saints this off season.  When Reggie Bush had a season ending torn MCL, with Carlos Hyde also hurt and Jarryd Hayne gone, the Niners signed both Thomas and Shaun Draughn.  Thomas was cut after a win over the Falcons, exchanged for Cadet.  Is Thomas still relevant?  If not, they can resort to their other option, Robert Turbin.  Turbin was Marshawn Lynch’s handcuff and Seattle’s passing back for a while, but after getting cut this preseason, he joined the Browns, where Isaiah Crowell and rookie Duke Johnson Jr. beat him out.   Turbin is still a solid passing back.  Will they sign somebody?

Julian Edelman

Edelman, the important slot receiver, will be replaced greatly by Danny Amendola and injury plagued Keshawn Martin.

“Martin, was enough”, Tom Brady said in a press conference.  “It’s too late in the season for another guy to learn our offense”. However, in addition, preseason sensation Chris Harper has been promoted form the practice squad.  Harper apparently may also be a slot receiver based on the fact he was promoted, and not somebody else.

So, there are options to replace our stars, but it’s still another obstacle in our Revenge Tour we need to overcome.
